What is acne?

Acne is a skin condition that is very common and so many people suffer from this. This results to spot formation at the face, shoulders, chest and back. Acne could be mild when it comes in the form of blackheads and whiteheads. There are other severe forms of acne which are cyst and others which may lead to scar formation. The mild form of acne rarely leads to scar formation. The sweat pores allow sweat out of the skin. When the sweat pores become blocked it results in acne.

There is no cure for acne but it has several control measures and treatment. There are a lot of over-the-counter treatment for acne like lotions, creams and gels. It is advisable to consult your physician if you have acne. Severe acne can be treated with antibiotics and some creams that can only be bought with a prescription. When you have acne, you may need to treat it with over-the-counter creams but in a situation where it refuses to heal, you should consult your physician.

Teenagers whose age range is between 11 and 30 are most of the time affected by severe acne, their symptoms begin to disappear only when they are in their mid-20s.

WHAT CAUSES ACNE?

Acne is caused by the blockage of hair follicles in the skin. There are tiny holes in the skin where hairs grow out. These holes are called hair follicles. Immediately beneath the skin are sebaceous glands which are attached to the hair follicles. These glands secrete oily fluid (sebum) which helps to lubricate the skin and hair on the skin. During periods of increased hormone secretion, there is an increased sebum production by the glands. Dead skin cells mix with sebum to form a plug that occludes the sweat pores or hair follicles. The plugged sweat pore can bulge outward when is located close to the skin to form a whitehead while a blackhead can be caused by the opening of the plugged follicle.

Testosterone: In teenage boys and girls, it is found to be the major cause of acne. During puberty, there is an increase in the production of testosterone which leads to male and female sex development. The glands in the skin are sensitized by this hormone and begin to secrete more sebum.

Heredity: There is a possibility of acne to run in some families. Some parents that have had acne during teenage pass it onto their children. This means that acne can be inherited by children from parents. Being a woman: Being a woman may predispose you to have acne. Women at some point in their life develop acne. These include; menstruation, pregnancy and polycystic ovary syndrome. These conditions trigger increase hormone secretion which affects the glands to secrete more sebum.

Carbon Spectra Peel

Carbon Spectra Peel The Carbon Spectra Peel starts with the application of carbon solution to your skin, as the laser pass over your skin, the carbon on the surface will absorb the heat and pass it to your skin below. This results in the top layer of the skin being exfoliated, drying out the excess sebum oil, killing the bacteria and resulting in the reduction of acne and minimizing the open pores.

Complications

People with darker skin types are more likely than are people with lighter skin to experience these acne complications:

Scars. Pitted skin (acne scars) and thick scars (keloids) can remain long-term after acne has healed.

Skin changes. After acne has cleared, the affected skin may be darker (hyperpigmented) or lighter (hypopigmented) than before the condition occurred.
