Laser Stretch Mark Removal

Laser stretch mark removal is the process of removing striae (stretch marks) with laser resurfacing. This is done by removing the outer layer of the skin to restructure the overlying skin. The procedure uses beams of light in concentrated amounts to encourage new growth. Though the treatment does not completely get rid of the stretch marks, it helps make them smoother and reduces their appearance.

Type of Lasers Used for the Treatment

For the skin resurfacing treatment, there are two different types of lasers used: ablative and ablative lasers. The ablative laser destroys the upper layer of the skin to treat the stretch marks. The new skin tissues then will be smoother in texture and appearance.

The non-ablative laser targets the underlying areas of the skin surface to help collagen growth from inside out.

How Long Does Laser Stretch Mark Removal Take?

The laser stretch mark removal is a relatively quick procedure. Ablative lasers may take an hour and a half while non-ablative lasers can be done in less than 30 minutes.

As laser therapy is a non-invasive treatment, it makes the recovery time a lot quicker compared to traditional surgeries.

How Long Does the Effects of the Treatment Last?

The skin resurfacing treatments can last for years. However, that depends on how well you take care of your skin. In some cases, the stretch marks may require only one ablative treatment. On the other hand, as non-ablative treatment is a lot less aggressive, it may require 1 to 6 sessions.
